Regional Research and Education Network - Not Just About Education - CKLN Board

The CKLN Board of Directors met in Grenada in January where they examined and articulated the role of CKLN and its management of the regional research and education network, C@ribNET.

The Board emphasised that the network is not only about facilitating education and research, but must also focus on issues and practices in health, security, climate change and disaster management.  Further, the Directors agreed to advocacte for and encourge regional institutions to collaboarte more on these and other critical issues affecting development in the region.

The CKLN Board comprises representatives nominated by their respective Caribbean governments as well as institutions such as Caribbean Community, CARICOM, and the Organisation of Eastrern Caribbean States, OECS. Professor Archibald McDonald of Jamaica is the Chairman.

Impact of C@ribNET depends on the Region's Educators, Researchers, Academic & Scientific Communities Communities - CKLN Chairman McDonald

Prof. Archibald McDonald, Chairman, CKLN Board of Director

Greetings for 2014 to my CKLN Agency Board colleagues, the CEO and staff of CKLN, members of the emergent C@ribNET national research and education networks (NRENs) and all staff in the member institutions who have worked so assiduously in 2013 to further advance development of C@ribNET, the Region's Research and Education Network.

The launch of C@ribNET in February 2013, the Caribbean's only high capacity, broadband research and education network, saw the fulfilment of a key CARICOM goal - the establishment of a network that connects all CARICOM countries to the expanding global research and education community. This was no simple task, and must be considered a significant commitment by the leaders of the Caribbean, understanding that research and education networks provide a platform for exponential growth in research and scientific collaboration that leads to innovation and fuels economic growth.
