CKLN Urges More Caribbean Participation in International R&E Network Activities

With C@ribNET the Region's only research and education network (REN) fully established, the emerging national research and education networks (NRENs) and their respective member institutions should take the opportunity to see, learn and share in the activities of partner REN's across the world.

According to Colleen Wint, CKLN's Communications and International Relations Manager, "C@ribNET is but one of many international networks dedicated to research and education, with etsablished protocols and there is much to learned from them."
She strongly encourages, where possible, for representatives of the emerging national R&E networks and their institutional to participate in some of the events hosted by these other RENs. In many instances, there can be remote participation.

Noted below are some of the upcoming annual events where not only technical updates are shared among the global partners, but which also introduce new and innovative ways for users to engage, regioanlly and internationally.

October 28, 2014
Student’s voices, the concerns of females and the development of safety and reporting technology were among topics discussed at a recent virtual discussion among regional campus security professionals. The CKLN joined forces with the Jamaica Research and Education Network, JREN, to host a half-day panel discussion focusing on the security issues, challenges and solutions faced by Regional tertiary institutions.
The video conference entitled “Campus Security and Personal Safety: Lessons Learned and Best Practices” was designed to stimulate establishment of a Community of Practice among campus security professionals across the Region, leveraging C@ribNET and its NRENs (national research and education networks) in providing solutions to the many challenges involved in securing campus security and student and faculty personal safety.
