Etta Becker-Donner-Scholarship Programme for Researchers from Latin America and the Caribbean.   

The Austrian Latin America Institute has just opened the third call of the Etta Becker-Donner-Scholarship Programme for Researchers from Latin America and the Caribbean.

The call is open from the December 2, 2013 to the January 31, 2014.

The aim of the Scholarship Programme is to support the participation of Latin American Researchers in scientific conferences in Austria and to Strengthen contacts Between Austria and research institutions in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The scholarship program Etta Becker-Donner facilitates contacts between researchers / as well as encourages and strengthens the communication between research institutions in Austria and Latin America and the Caribbean. Fellows visit research institutions that are of topical interest to explore possibilities for future collaboration. Thus the scholarship encourages scientific exchange.

Eligible institutions
- Become a member or employee of a research institution and / or a higher education institution and / or an SME dedicated to research.
- Being an / a researcher / a of Latin America and the Caribbean
- Having a graduate degree or at least three years of research experience (full-time)

Amount of funding - Max. € 2600

LIME Foundation Offers Telecoms Scholarships

The LIME Foundation is offering five scholarships valued at $300,000 each to students pursuing studies in the field of telecommunications at the University of the West Indies - Mona (UWI).

  • The scholarships are tenable at the UWI and are open to final-year students and will be administered by the UWI Development and Endowment Fund (UWIDEF).
  • The scholarships will cover tuition expenses for five (5) outstanding undergraduate students registered in the Faculty of Science and Technology and who are in the third and final year of pursuing a major in electronics engineering - telecommunications.
  • Applicants should be between ages 18 and 25, they should have maintained a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
  • In addition, applicants should demonstrate sound leadership abilities, have a verifiable financial need and are involved in co-curricular and community activities.
  • Candidates should apply based on advertised guidelines and those shortlisted will be interviewed by a panel consisting of representatives of the LIME Foundation, the UWI and the UWIDEF.

The annual TERENA Networking Conference (TNC) is a great opportunity to meet with around 650 technical experts and managers from research and education networking organisations, universities and industry representatives from around the world. It also provides an opportunity for students researching in relevant fields to present their work and ideas as part of a sponsored global contest.

At TNC2014, in Dublin, Ireland, 19-22 May, the theme "Networking with the world" will explore how research and education networking organisations can support "big and open science", "connecting minds", "experimentation as a service", "shaping cloud services" and issues of security and privacy, among other topics.
The keynote speakers for TNC2014 inlcude:

  • Tracy Futhey, addressing challenges in bringing R&E into the cloud and new educational 'mechanisms’;
  • Claire Boonstra, tackling ‘education for the future’
  • Lord David Puttnam, talking about ‘Digital Citizens of Tomorrow’;

Students will also be invited to submit in the competition that is sponsored by Cisco Systems and the Internet Society: the ten best submissions will be rewarded with free TNC2014 attendance and financial support for travel.
