Our Goals

As an Agency of the Caribbean Community, CARICOM, the Caribbean Knowledge and Learning Network, CKLN, shares the goal of  CARICOM - a viable and internationally competitive and sustainable Community. 
 

CKLN's strategic objective is to enhance global competitiveness of the Caribbean by upgrading and diversifying the skills and knowledge of human resources in the region through greater regional collaboration and connectivity.
 
CKLN also coordinates and manages the development of C@ribNET, the regional Research and Education Network that will connect CARICOM institutions for greater collaboration and functional cooperation.
 

 
The Project Purpose is to improve the relevance of tertiary education and training institutions in the Caribbean, by increasing the number of relevant accredited tertiary education courses and programs supported and offered to a significantly increased numbers of Caribbean students.
 
Project Components
  1. Institutional Strengthening - Building capacity in the Tertiary Education Institutions in the Region, necessary for the successful adoption of new approaches to learning and the sustainable and strategic management of the host institutions
  2. Connecting the Caribbean - Harness state-of-the-art  communications technologies to provide a virtual learning network between tertiary education institutions in the Caribbean 
  3. Enabling Regional Mechanisms - Facilitate the success of the Tertiary Institutions, particularly as these relate to training, accreditation, quality assurance, standards, financial transactions, learning management and technical support


 

 





 
     Institutional Strengthening
  1. Development of strategic Institutional Plans for integrating ICT into the teaching and learning process for the development and delivery of online and distance tertiary education courses and programmes that are aligned with the Caribbean economic development sectors
  2. Assist Ministries of Education in developing policies to guide the development of online and distance education programmes
  3. Provide training to faculty staff in the development and delivery of online courses and programmes
  4. Provide computer servers and network equipment for hosting a development environment for online courses
   

     Connecting the Caribbean

        An advanced high capacity fibre optic network (C@ribNET) connecting all CARICOM member states to support:
        Functional Cooperation in the areas of:
  1. Distributed and online learning (E-Learning)
  2. Collaboration between Public Officials
  3. E-Government
  4. Telemedicine (E-Health)
  5. Disaster management and collaboration
  6. Crime and security
  7. Culture
  8. Many Others

        Participation of our colleges and universities in  collaborating and partnering with colleges, universities and                          research institutions in the USA, European Union, EU, Asia and other global education and research networks.

        - Commercial Internet for Schools and other educational Institutions
        - Facilitate inclusion of the Diaspora in the Caribbean  development agenda
        - The Catalyst for development of NERNS and National Backbone
        - Bridge the Digital Divide in the Region to achieve Social Cohesion of Caribbean people
 
   
      Enabling Regional Mechanisms
  1. Provide an environment  within which Tertiary Institutions in the Caribbean can collaborate in the development of online courses and programmes
  2. Assist in the development of Regional capacity/mechanism to provide Quality Assurance and Accreditation services for all Tertiary Institutions
  3. Provision of shared services to tertiary institutions in the areas of:
             - Student Registration and administration System
             - Learning Management and Content Development systems
             - Regional Tertiary Education Portal for Caribbean Citizens to access Online educational resources no matter                       where they live
